How Is Time Management Works in Developing Design?
The most common problem is that classic time management doesn't work for the majority of the designers. When we use classic time management tools we just kill time, but this is not a golden opportunity for us.
How To Beat The Clock And Being Confident That You're Not Wasting Your Time?
I've already tried different methods of time management and what I know well is that similar lists work very good if you a designer. You need to set up a goal. For example, decrease most of the routines or made the whole project so, that client will be happy.
Now, let's imagine that you set up goal and next step will be writing ToDo list of how you would achieve this goal. For example, in the 1st case when we want to decrease routines we should fill out the list with leftovers of past projects. Small things for that you can't find time to complete or common problems which you should solve but never found a time for this. Track Your Time
This is the second magic tool that I warmly recommend you. After you wrote a ToDo list try to track your time during the work with this list. You'll see an interesting fact that you spend on tasks less time than you imagined before. Thus, tracking time let you know more information about your productivity and about the things that consume most of the time. This is another important point. A project that consumes most of the time ideally should be most profitable. For example, project that helps you achieve your goal or project that cover your basic needs and not only.
I want to recommend you a couple of apps that helps me to keep my productivity on normal level.
For the lists I use Trello. This app has the web and mobile versions. So, it's synchronizing well between devices. This is very important for me to open my management board in any time and in any place. Also, it's very useful that you can visualize your tasks and separate them on different categories. For example, you are working on 2-3 projects. So, you can add in board 2-3 lists and fill out them with tasks that you need to do for this projects. This app also has a minus. I didn't find notification feature. For example, would be helpful to receive notifications on email. I read somewhere that they are working on it and I hope this feature would launch soon.
I track my time with Toggl. It's the second productivity tool that I use every day. I installed this app on my Mac and turn on it each time when I do something for work or for achieving my goals. Actually, I track all that I do on my laptop. In this app, you can separate time that you spend on different projects and even on different clients that can contain many projects. This is a very helpful function.
Also, I use RescueTime for the same needs of tracking time. This app works automatically and you shouldn't involve in a process of work of this app. I installed this app and registered account some time ago. From this moment I have been receiving reports of spent time and productivity score weekly. Good point in this app that it somehow now what apps do you use and what websites visit during the week. On this basis, this app counts productivity score.
Track or Not?
All people are different and one method can be helpful for one person, but another just don't work for this kind of person. So, best what I can recommend you, for now, is to try at least one-month use ToDo lists and track time tools. In my experience it's profitable.
